Strategically located between the highlands and lowlands of Chiriqui, Finca Ceriana forms part of a privately protected area for the conservation of flora and fauna in the region.

One of Finca Ceriana's unique characteristics is the number of bird species and other animals from the upper and lower mountain areas. The property is part of the biological corridor that hosts the famous volcano lagoons and a large variety of animal and plant species. Apart from being an important migration zone for birds, the biological corridor of the lagoons and Finca Ceriana is vital for the wellbeing of the protected areas of La Amistad International Park and Baru Volcano National Park.

The farm offers its visitors easy nature trails for outdoor activities and particularly bird watching, a unique canopy tower, gourmet picnic, sugar cane mill and much more. The total area counts 10 hectares of protected land and nearly 3 kilometers of nature trails, in addition to one of the most beautiful views to Costa Rica's Golfo Dulce, or sweet golf, and Osa pensinsula as well as to Punta Burica in Panama.

Luigi and Jannette González de la Lastra

About Us

Finca Ceriana is a dream come true!

The proud owners are Luigi González de la Lastra and Jannette Janson. Since the day they were married, they dreamed of living in the town where Jannette grew up: Volcán Chiriquí. Eight years ago their dream started to take shape when they bought a 20 hectare property right next to the main Janson farm, where Jannette spent almost all her childhood and part of her teenage years.

Luigi, who also comes from a family from the province of Chiriquí, has always felt "Chiricano" and particularly feels a great love for the Panamanian high lands, his favorite saying is: I am "Chiricano" by heritage and "Volcaneño (person from Volcan in Spanish) by adoption.

After a very long International career in a Swiss Multinational and after many years in the Middle East, Brazil, Switzerland and the US, the González de la Lastra Janson decided it was time to go back home. In May 2013 they went back to Panama and settled in the town of Volcan, looking for a high quality, but quiet life.

With a great conservation spirit, they decided to keep half of their farm as a Private Natural Reserve. Encouraged by family and friends, they contacted specialists in the subject and immediately started work on improving an already existing trail that crisscrossed the forest. The objective was to make it appropriate for visitors to observe and study birds, mammals, insects and plants without interfering with nature.

In the process, they realized how much the place was enjoyed by visitors and based on their own knowledge and life experiences they developed a concept to help people enjoy nature, particularly those that lead a busy and hectic life, at a slow and comfortable pace. Their motto is: Experience nature at an easy pace.

Welcome to Finca Ceriana!

Origins of the name Ceriana: Ceriana is a small town located in the North West of Italy, in the province of Imperia in the region of Liguria. It was from this town that in the 18th century one of the forefathers of the family Janson Calhoun (Jannette's grandparents) emigrated first to England then to the US. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceriana
